The “bind” or the “crossing” is a concept found in both Liechtenauer and Fiore. There are similar actions that can be done in or from the bind, but there are also some differences.
It is my point of view that while Fiore and Liechtenauer have many similarities, the biggest (and therefore most important) difference is that they approach the fight differently and have different underlying principles to guide the conduct of the fight.
In this video, Federico Malagutti and I discuss some of our thoughts about working from the bind, from one of the simplest, most common binding situations. I share my thoughts from the Germanic perspective of Liechtenauer, while Federico shares his thoughts about Fiore’s solution to the same problem.
Shortly after making this video, I had the opportunity to make another video with Dave and Alessandro Gallo, discussing my thoughts about understanding the bind more deeply in terms of the Liechtenauer system.
