If you have a question about HEMA, or if you would like some private tuition to help you improve some part of your practice, then I offer online coaching and private tuition in a variety of fashions, both online and offline.
Online coaching and private tuition
If there is an issue you would like to discuss, or a skill you would like to improve, then we can schedule a video chat to talk it through. This will function just like a private tuition session in person, but with the flexibility of being able to do it at any time and without needing to travel.
We can arrange a video chat through Zoom so that we can talk in real time, and so that we can demonstrate physical motions and go through physical exercises with feedback and coaching.
Video review and feedback
If you have a video of yourself sparring or performing techniques and drills, I am happy to review the video and to offer constructive feedback to help you improve your skills and understanding.
Please get in touch via the contact form below so that we can make sure that I will be able to help you. If we decide to go ahead with it, then I will make a folder in Google Drive for the videos and will share this with you. You can then upload your video(s) to this folder so that I can see them, and then I’ll put any written or video responses into the same folder for you. This will keep everything secure and simple.
Fee
From the autumn of 2023, my fee for online coaching and private tuition is £50 per hour or £30 for half an hour. Discounts are available for AHA members and regular students.
In general, the fee must be paid before the coaching session begins. For regular students, the process for invoicing and payments can be more flexible.

Discuss your booking
Please send me an email through this form so that we can start discussing your needs. If you let me know what sort of thing you would like to work on, and roughly how long a session you might prefer, it will give me some useful ideas to be able to respond helpfully.
Terms and conditions
Purchasing my time
By booking a session with me, you are purchasing an amount of my time, during which I will make myself available to provide tuition for you. This time will be defined by the scheduled timeslot.
This time may also need to include setting up time, warming up, tidying away – especially if we are booking a space in a hall, with other people booked to use the hall before us and/or after us.
Rescheduling
I am generally quite willing to reschedule a booking, as many times as necessary for it to take place successfully in a mutually convenient fashion. Please just get in touch with me to ask, and we can work it out.
However, if I have already had to turn down work in order to be available for your booking, or if I have already had to alter family life or other commitments around the booking, then I am less likely to be able to or willing to reschedule it! As a general rule, the more notice you can give me, the less of a problem it is likely to be.
Missing the session
If I am waiting for you at the session, and you do not arrive, then I will wait for 10-15 minutes, because delays are always possible. After that, however, I may leave the hall or leave the Zoom session, and turn my attention to other things.
If there was a sudden emergency that prevented you from attending, then we could potentially reschedule the session, or I could potentially offer a partial refund for the booking (minus a share for the time I waited). However, since I will have arranged my working day around the booking, and perhaps turned down other work or made other changes in terms of family life or social commitments, refunds or rescheduling cannot be guaranteed.
