Hectic Week--Studio And Hosting Problems
The past week has probably been the most stressful week of the year. It started off with a client I was doing voice-overs for had already paid me in advance. During the recording session, my microphone had just gone on the blink half way through a read. I then had to go buy a new one and before you ask what mic....it was the Audio Technica MB5k. Then I began to re-record and found that my Amplifier had just blown on one side. Guess where I ended up? Back at the store again for a new Amp, then I came home to experience my mic lead was then cutting out and I actually thought it was the new mic at fault, but realized it was a break in the mic cable....back to the store again...
Afterwards, I got mailed by another client I do voice work for and he tells me my website is down and he was unable to contact me from my website. I contact my host and get no reply! Then my database gets wiped clean and I lost all my content for that website. It was a matter of time before I realized all my websites home-pages where replaced by a plain white page with a hackers signature. Upon contacting my host again, eventually they answer and tell me its just an "issue". I hardly call 20+ websites home-pages been replaced by a hacker - "an issue".
After my host took down their servers to restore a backup. The backup of my KeithFarrell.Net website was a backup of the database which got wiped earlier that week. Upon contacting my host, I never received my ticket reference number, so I mailed management instead. After sometime I got the original DB restored to find my DB only has read permissions. Essentially this left my websites displaying all kinds of errors! My site gets crawled by many search engines every day. No doubt, I will loose some rankings based on the downtime. Not to mention how my site will look after being re-indexed.
I asked my host, LetsHost.Ie if they could provide me with a VPS and asked if I'd be discounted anything based on the downtime and length I've been a customer. Answer wasn't far off being bluntly put as no... I am now seeking a new better host. If anyone has any recommendations or friends in the hosting business. Direct them to me. Frankly, I've never had a host as good as Letshost.Ie before, but I feel as they grow, I'm becoming another client number and the past previous months - support had slackened until their servers where hacked. I owe all thanks to Daragh from Letshost for his continuous support through all of this. But I think It's time I looked at moving. Wouldn't you....
